Thank you!

Happy Memorial Day, and thank you to the men and women of the Armed Forces who make our everyday lives possible!
We have a game tonight, and have a lot of cool military appreciation activities. One thing that we will have pregame is a Fire Base Ceremony. It is very moving...here's the description:

In Vietnam, U.S. troops were often unable to pay sufficient tribute to the men of their military unit who were killed in action or who later died of wounds suffered under fire. As a means of recognizing and memorializing these “brothers-in-arms”, a ceremony was later performed at a relatively safe firebase far from battle. Thus evolved the FIREBASE CEREMONY. In a simple and solemn way, military personnel were then afforded an opportunity to honor the memory of their fallen comrades. Symbolizing a “combat cross,” the helmet, rifle, and boots resonate with the profound respect that military personnel have for those who have paid the ultimate price in service to our country.

(AFTER PLACING THE RIFLE, BOOTS & HELMET, THE DETAIL WILL EXECUTE A SLOW SALUTE. WHILE HOLDING THE SALUTE, THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS INTRODUCED.)

It gives you chills and is very impactful. I found a photo online here.

In addition, we have cards for soldiers, donations collected for military care packages, a silent auction for wounded warriors, and much much more. While I am working on a national holiday, it is kind of neat to actually spend it focusing on these brave men and women.

Have a good one!
